{"id":256,"date":"2011-04-18T10:25:48","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T14:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/grants\/?p=256"},"modified":"2011-04-18T10:25:48","modified_gmt":"2011-04-18T14:25:48","slug":"neh-humanities-collections-and-reference-resources-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/grants\/2011\/04\/18\/neh-humanities-collections-and-reference-resources-2\/","title":{"rendered":"NEH Humanities Collections and Reference Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CFP: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neh.gov\/grants\/guidelines\/HCRR.html\">http:\/\/www.neh.gov\/grants\/guidelines\/HCRR.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deadline: July 20, 2011<\/p>\n<p>Awards: Up to $350,000 for 3 years<\/p>\n<p>The Division of Preservation and Access of the National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for grants in its Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program.\u00a0 These grants support projects to preserve and create intellectual access to such collections as books, journals, manuscript and archival materials, maps, still and moving images, sound recordings, art, and objects of material culture.\u00a0 Awards also support the creation of reference materials, online resources, and research tools of major importance to the humanities.\u00a0 Maximum awards are $350,000 for up to three years.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible activities include:<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 arranging and describing archival and manuscript collections;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 cataloging collections of printed works, photographs, recorded sound, moving images, art, and material culture;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 providing conservation treatment (including deacidification) for collections, leading to enhanced access;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 digitizing collections;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 preserving and improving access to born-digital sources;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 developing databases, virtual collections, or other electronic resources to codify information on a subject or to provide integrated access to selected humanities materials;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 creating encyclopedias;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 preparing linguistic tools, such as historical and etymological dictionaries, corpora, and reference grammars<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 developing tools for spatial analysis and representation of humanities data, such as atlases and geographic information systems (GIS);<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 designing digital tools to facilitate use of humanities resources.<\/p>\n<p>In response to recent studies noting the deeply hidden, often perilous condition of audio-visual sources in cultural heritage institutions, this program encourages applications that address the preservation and access needs of humanities collections of sound recordings and moving images.
