Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL). These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>GREENR, <\/em>from Gale Cengage Learning.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> GREENR <\/em>offers content, including images and videos, on green technologies and issues on the environment and sustainability.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>GREENR<\/em> is a new database, started just this past summer.\u00a0 The Basic Search<\/strong> and the Advanced Search<\/strong> display the results so they can be limited with further descriptors. For example, enter Gulf of Mexico<\/em> as a Basic Search<\/strong> and the 13,794 hits can be narrowed down by a list of subjects that appear on the left, such as Oil Drilling Rigs<\/em>, or by type of resource in the middle display area, such as Academic Journals<\/em>, or on the right display area by formats. The GREENR<\/em> home page also offers general categories (Agriculture and Food Systems, Science and Technology, Social Factors<\/em>, etc.) that are further broken down into topics such as climate change <\/em>or wetlands<\/em>.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> GREENR<\/em> covers food systems, environmental law, economics and trade, pollution, ecology, energy, and more.\u00a0 Besides the academic resources included in text-only databases, GREENR<\/em> includes podcasts, websites, newspapers, videos, magazines, and case studies.\u00a0 You can navigate country, organization, and country portals for news, video, and primary source documents.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> GREENR<\/em> has a different look that resembles the web and should appeal to anyone.\u00a0 It is easy to search or browse by topic, country, or format.\u00a0 Students will find GREENR<\/em> easy to navigate, and can use it to find content on a topic or select a subject for an assignment.<\/p>\n Compared to Google:<\/strong> A search in Google <\/em>for Gulf of Mexico videos results in 22,790 hits compared to 222\u00a0 in GREENR<\/em>.\u00a0 GREENR<\/em> includes reports from PBS, but the Google results do not highlight PBS reports.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> Paid annually by Purdue University Libraries..<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
