Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> LexisNexis Company Dossier, <\/em> from LexisNexis, Inc.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below our banner.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> LexisNexis Company Dossier<\/em> is business information segment in LexisNexis Academic.<\/em> This is the first in a mini-series of snapshots of the LexisNexis products provided by the Libraries.<\/p>\n Start with this hint:<\/strong> If the company of interest is a private company, enter the company name and LexisNexis Company Dossier<\/em> will give you a list of guesses.\u00a0 As with any database offering company information, however, when searching for a publicly traded company, it is quicker to get results if you have the ticker for your company.\u00a0 In the ticker field enter luv<\/em> or the symbol for another publicly-traded company.\u00a0 Each section on the resulting Snapshot<\/em> page expands to the complete information in that field.\u00a0 On the left are more links, including Legal Information <\/strong>and Intellectual Property Information<\/strong>.\u00a0 Go back to the search page (hit Return to Company Searches<\/strong> at the top) and switch to Company Profiles<\/strong> on the left.\u00a0 This will bring up a list of reports from the LexisNexis sources such as Disclosure, Standard & Poor\u2019s, Hoover\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0 When you use the Dossier Compare Companies<\/strong> feature on the search page,\u00a0 the ticker symbols are especially important.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database: <\/strong>The Financial Information<\/strong> link on the left on the Snapshot<\/em> page brings up tables that can be expanded to include historical information, including ratio analysis.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> The breadth of information on the LexisNexis Company Dossier<\/em> snapshot page, as well as the opportunity to expand for more, presents students with reliable and complete company information, including news reports.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> LexisNexis Company Dossier<\/em> is part of LexisNexis Academic<\/em>, a subscription paid by the Libraries annually; for more information contact mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
