{"id":10930,"date":"2010-01-22T14:28:39","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T18:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=567"},"modified":"2010-01-22T14:28:39","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T18:28:39","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-12210-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2010\/01\/22\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-12210-2\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 1\/22\/10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> <em>Business Source Premier, <\/em>from EBSCOhost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> <em>Business Source Premier <\/em>provides access to articles and reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint: <\/strong><em>Business Source Premier<\/em> opens at the <strong>Basic Search<\/strong>, but if you choose the <strong>Advanced Search<\/strong> tab, before you even start your search you can select options such as <strong>Full Text<\/strong>.\u00a0 The <strong>Advanced Search<\/strong> page also lists the indexes that can be browsed such as author names and publication types.\u00a0 You should also take a look at the <strong>Visual Search <\/strong>tab.\u00a0 This brings up the results of your search in an appealing interactive display. <strong>Visual Search<\/strong> does not offer options such as full text and it only brings up the 250 most relevant hits, but if you don\u2019t need 8000 articles on your subject, it is an easy to use alternative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database: <\/strong> Because of its broad range of content and ease of use,<em> Business Source Premier<\/em> is one of our most highly recommended databases.\u00a0 It includes journals, trade magazines, Datamonitor reports, newspapers, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Whether students need to find scholarly articles, market research reports, or company information, <em>Business Source Premier<\/em> can guide them by offering suggestions to narrow down a broad search.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C<\/strong><strong>ost:<\/strong> <em>Business Source Premier<\/em> is an Inspire database with enhanced features paid by the Libraries.\u00a0 For more information contact <a href=\"mailto:mdugan@purdue.edu\">mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
