Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL). These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>Forrester Research <\/em>from Forrester.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> Forrester Research <\/em> is the source for IT-related market research.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>Forrester Research<\/em> requires an extra layer of security with an additional login and registration, but navigation\u00a0 in the database through the menus and submenus is simple.\u00a0 The tabbed options that are probably most useful for academic research are Research<\/strong>, Consumer<\/strong> Data<\/strong>, Business Data<\/strong>, and the search box.\u00a0 If you enter the name of a company, such as Apple<\/em>, the reports can be refined through tools on the left side of the web page by geographical region, industry, or other parameters.\u00a0 If you enter a concept such as security<\/em>, the list of hits is headed by categories for browsing, such as Client Security & Management<\/em>.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> Forrester Research<\/em> covers IT issues as they affect other industries.\u00a0 Airlines<\/em>, for example, nets 1108 results.\u00a0 Enter pharmaceuticals<\/em> for reports on issues such as vaccine delivery, direct to consumer marketing, social tools in the industry, and others. Under the tab Consumer<\/strong> Data<\/strong>, Technographics Research<\/em> includes reports on online consumer behavior and the future of market research.\u00a0 Under Business Data,<\/strong> you can find reports that can be filtered by industry, topic, or region.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Forrester Research<\/em> sub-categories can be explored by using the tool on the left column of the home page, Browse Topics \u2013 View all topics<\/strong>.\u00a0 The list ranges from Application Development<\/em>, through IT Management<\/em>, to Retail<\/em>, and more.\u00a0 This list can help with the selection of a project topic or provide information on IT aspects of a topic.<\/p>\n Compared to Google:<\/strong> The first page of a search for in Google <\/em>for internet access on airplanes\u00a0 includes magazine and newspaper articles.\u00a0 Forrester Research <\/em>includes 2 relevant reports.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> For information on the cost of this database, contact mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
