Database name:<\/strong> lynda.com<\/em><\/a>, from Lynda.com.\u00a0 lynda.com<\/em><\/a> was Database of the Week in August 2009; today\u2019s email is updated information.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> lynda.com<\/em> provides online video lessons on the usage and techniques of software products.<\/p>\n Start with this hint:<\/strong> lynda.com <\/em>lets you select lessons with a keyword search or from dropdown menus.\u00a0 The menus cover Subject<\/strong> (try Game Development<\/em>), Software<\/strong> (such as Quicken<\/em>), and Vendor<\/strong>. The Vendor<\/strong> list includes Apple and Sony, but also includes Open Source. The lessons list shows the level of difficulty and the time required to complete the lesson.\u00a0 The lessons cover the expected software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe,\u00a0 SQL, AutoCAD, Dreamweaver and other common tools, but also include 2D character animation, and many others.<\/p>\n Why you should know this tool:<\/strong> The lessons at lynda.com <\/em>are short, focused, and\u00a0 have the right amount of information without being overwhelming. Over the last year, the most viewed lessons have guided Purdue users through Acrobat<\/em>, ActionScript<\/em> game development, Captivate<\/em>, CSS <\/em>website design, Illustrator<\/em>, Google Apps<\/em> including Calendar, Outlook<\/em>, Photoshop<\/em>, and SQL<\/em>.
