Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL). These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>AGRICOLA, <\/em>from the National Agricultural Library.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> AGRICOLA <\/em>is a record material on agriculture and related topics that are in the National Agricultural Library.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>There are few difference between the AGRICOLA<\/em> advanced interface and the basic.\u00a0 Both offer options by clicking Additional Limits<\/strong> which include language, target audience, type of publication, and years of publication.\u00a0 It also offers a box to check for Full Text<\/strong>, but AGRICOLA<\/em> has few full text articles.\u00a0 For example, a keyword search for organic farming<\/em> has 2040 hits, but the same search for full text results in only 10 titles.\u00a0 This presents a good opportunity to try out the FIND IT at Purdue Libraries<\/strong> service.\u00a0 If the title you want is available in another database, FIND IT at Purdue Libraries<\/strong> will do the search and show you where it is.\u00a0 Perhaps the most useful feature of the AGRICOLA<\/em> interface is that you can see your search history and combine searches.\u00a0 For example, the search for organic farming<\/em> can be combined with specific countries or crops.\u00a0 AGRICOLA<\/em> also supplies tools and filters to narrow search results.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> AGRICOLA<\/em> topics cover a wide range including agricultural regulations, training, animal science, nutrition, natural resources management, environmental pollution, food science, forestry, energy, and others.\u00a0 AGRICOLA<\/em> coverage goes back to 1970.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> The AGRICOLA<\/em> list of results shows an option to Find Similar<\/strong> for each title.\u00a0 The filters and other tools can simplify\u00a0 the search process.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong>Paid annually by Purdue University Libraries.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
