{"id":1348,"date":"2011-02-04T10:42:33","date_gmt":"2011-02-04T14:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=1348"},"modified":"2015-04-23T11:00:51","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T15:00:51","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-2411","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2011\/02\/04\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-2411\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 2\/4\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a suggestion for a topic, or a database that should be promoted, please let us know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Database name:<\/strong> <em>Global Market Information Database<\/em> (aka <em>GMID<\/em>), from Euromonitor International.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\" target=\"_blank\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> <em>GMID<\/em> gives you access to high-quality, detailed international market intelligence reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint:<\/strong> Using the <em>GMID<\/em> simple search field in the top right corner can generate an effective search. For\u00a0 example, try <em>smartphones<\/em>.\u00a0 The top half of the results lists <em>GMID<\/em> reports but don\u2019t overlook the articles shown on the bottom half.\u00a0 For a more precise result, in the left side of the menu bar, click on <strong>Search<\/strong> and select <strong>Menu<\/strong> <strong>Search<\/strong>.\u00a0 Select a broad category such as <em>Consumer<\/em> <em>Health<\/em> or drill down to <em>Antihistamines<\/em>, click <strong>Next<\/strong>, then select a geographic area.\u00a0 To see an example of a company report, enter General Mills on the <strong>Companies<\/strong> page. Note the icons indicating statistics or reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong> <em>GMID<\/em> is one of our most powerful databases, providing domestic and international statistics on consumer goods and services, details on companies, and comprehensive economic information on countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Students can easily navigate the <em>GMID<\/em> interface to use country consumer data to compare markets.\u00a0 The reports include financial assessment and SWOT.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> Paid by Krannert School of Management and the Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
