Database name:<\/strong> BizMiner<\/em><\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> BizMiner<\/em> delivers industry analysis by tracking 18 million US business in 16,000\u00a0industry segments.<\/p>\n Start with this hint:<\/strong> BizMiner<\/em> categories are SIC-based, but the search tools include the options of keyword, NAICS, or \u201cIndustry Cluster Drilldown.\u201d\u00a0 Whatever your starting point, each selection leads to a narrower industry segment so you can drill down, for example, from Health Services to Medical Laboratories to Testing Laboratories to Blood Analysis Laboratories, and then choose a 3 or 5 year report, and even narrow that to a particular metro area.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> BizMiner<\/em> includes information vital to building a business plan for an entrepreneurial project, such as Local Market Vitality Profiles, a State Market Index series, and an area demographic series.\u00a0 Reports include sections on business failure rates, market share statistics, emerging vitality, and other data.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Each report in BizMiner<\/em> includes explanations of terms, such as Growth Index Measures or Operational Concentration, providing students a ready reference tool to help them understand the data in the industry segment report.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> Paid by the Libraries.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
