{"id":1462,"date":"2011-05-16T08:39:09","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T12:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=1462"},"modified":"2011-07-29T15:45:15","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T19:45:15","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-51311","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2011\/05\/16\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-51311\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 5\/13\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week \u2014 a feature from the Management &amp;  Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you  basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online  resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> eBooks<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\" target=\"_blank\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the catalog (see a 90-second demo here <a href=\"http:\/\/screenjel.ly\/Cfz82S-99fw\">eBooks in the catalog<\/a>) or through one of our collections (see the demo here <a href=\"http:\/\/screenjel.ly\/gwuc9xrBZaQ\">eBook collections<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> The link for eBooks takes you to a page with links to the business collections of <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, <em>Safari<\/em>, CAB, and <em>Springer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint:<\/strong> When you see a book of interest in <em>NetLibrary<\/em> you can look at the chapter titles by clicking <strong>Show Details<\/strong>.\u00a0 In <em>Safari<\/em> and <em>Springer<\/em> you can also choose to search the chapter titles as well as book titles.\u00a0 For example, a title search for \u201cproject management\u201d yields 5 books in <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, but 7 books and 44 chapters in <em>Safari<\/em>.\u00a0 A search of the catalog for title, subject, or keyword will include eBooks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong> The eBook collections have the full text of books in all fields of business, and include reference books as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Required reading does not have to be a hardcopy textbook or a chapter on our reserve shelf.\u00a0 Students can be referred instead to books or chapters in <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, <em>Safari<\/em>, or <em>Springer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> varies by database; if you would like to know what the library pays for any of these, send an email to <a href=\"https:\/\/owa.purdue.edu\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=ff58bb5d008a4e2cbb9f91af825a7c4a&amp;URL=mailto%3amdugan%40purdue.edu\">mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
