Welcome to Database of the Week.\u00a0 Database of the Week is a feature from the Roland G. Parrish Library of Management & Economics. These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>SimplyMap <\/em>from Geographic Research, Inc.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> SimplyMap <\/em> provides demographic, business, and marketing data.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>The interface for SimplyMap<\/em> has been simplified but the data you can access and compare is still prodigious.\u00a0 The Variables<\/strong> you can select include:<\/p>\n Census Data<\/em><\/p>\n Consumer Expenditure<\/em> (for example, Housing <\/em>or Child<\/em> care<\/em>)<\/p>\n Business Counts<\/em><\/p>\n Market Segments<\/em> (for example, In the Armed Forces<\/em>)<\/p>\n Quality of Life<\/em> (showing crime, earthquakes, snowfall)<\/p>\n Consumer<\/em> Price Index<\/em><\/p>\n Retail Sales<\/em><\/p>\n Sales Potential<\/em><\/p>\n MRI Consumer Data<\/em><\/p>\n Life Stages<\/em><\/p>\n Simmons Data<\/em> (formerly Choices 3<\/em>)<\/p>\n The information can be represented on a map but can also be presented in a spreadsheet.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> SimplyMap<\/em> is the tool to use to compare variables, rank locations, create a demographic analysis, or compare data for a location.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> SimplyMap<\/em> online workspaces can be shared.\u00a0 This database can be used for any class that requires a business plan or forecasting.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> $2 simultaneous users, paid annually by the Libraries.
