Welcome to Database of the Week, a feature from the Roland G. Parrish Library of Management & Economics.\u00a0 These weekly snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n

This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>\u00a0CountryWatch, <\/em>from CountryWatch, Inc.<\/p>\n

Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/parrish<\/a>, in the pulldown Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n

Description\/focus:<\/strong>\u00a0 CountryWatch<\/em> provides up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the world.<\/p>\n

Start with this hint:<\/strong>\u00a0 On your own you should explore the Intelligence Products listed on the left side of the home page, especially Country Data<\/strong> and Country Wire.<\/strong>\u00a0 Access to the main value of the database begins with the\u00a0 Country Reviews<\/strong>.\u00a0 Select a country from the dropdown list and the resulting page is the \u201cCountry Overview,\u201d a very brief sketch of the country\u2019s basic information.\u00a0 The review also provides links for detailed reports on specific topics in that country such as Political Conditions or\u00a0 Environmental Policy.\u00a0 Click here <\/a>to see a basic search in CountryWatch<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Why you should know this database:\u00a0 <\/strong>Each CountryWatch<\/em> listing includes economic information, information on the investment climate, social and political information, and an environmental overview.\u00a0\u00a0 The Bibliography<\/strong> provides titles of books as well as links to both U.S. and international sources of information.<\/p>\n

How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the top of the CountryWatch<\/em> home page is the link for More search features<\/strong>.\u00a0 Students can compare countries for a product such as cotton, or subject such as taxation, or a concept such as child labor.<\/p>\n

Cost:<\/strong> Paid by the Libraries annually.<\/p>\n
