{"id":287,"date":"2009-10-02T10:16:21","date_gmt":"2009-10-02T14:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=287"},"modified":"2010-04-05T10:48:38","modified_gmt":"2010-04-05T14:48:38","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-102","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2009\/10\/02\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-102\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 10\/2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Week&#8217;s Featured Database: <\/strong> eBooks<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below our banner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> Selecting eBooks takes you to a page with links to several collections including the business collections of <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, <em>Safari<\/em>, and <em>Springer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint:<\/strong> When you see a book of interest in <em>NetLibrary<\/em> you can look at the chapter titles by clicking <strong>Show Details<\/strong>.\u00a0 In <em>Safari<\/em> and <em>Springer<\/em> you can also choose to search the chapter titles as well as book titles.\u00a0 For example, a title search for &#8220;project management&#8221; yields 5 books in <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, but 7 books and 44 chapters in <em>Safari<\/em>.\u00a0 In <em>Springer<\/em>, select &#8220;Business and Economics,&#8221; click <strong>more options<\/strong> on the right,\u00a0 enter &#8220;project management&#8221; in the title field, and scroll down the resulting list to see <strong>Content Type<\/strong> showing 9 books and 190 book chapters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong> <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, <em>Safari<\/em>, and <em>Springer<\/em> have the full text of books in all fields of business, and include reference books as well.\u00a0 If you develop an appreciation for e-books and have a suggestion for a title that is not available through these databases, please let us know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Required reading does not have to be a hardcopy textbook or a chapter on our reserve shelf.\u00a0 Students can be referred instead to books or chapters in <em>NetLibrary<\/em>, <em>Safari<\/em>, or <em>Springer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> varies by database; if you would like to know what the library pays for any of these, send an email to <a href=\"mailto:mdugan@purdue.edu\">mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
