This Week\u2019s Featured Database:\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>BizMiner, <\/span><\/i>from the Brandow Company.<\/span><\/p>\n

Find it:<\/span><\/b> www.lib.purdue.edu\/parrish<\/a>, Under the column headed Collections<\/i>, click on List of Business Databases. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Description\/focus:<\/span><\/b> BizMiner<\/i> delivers industry analysis by tracking 18 million US businesses in 16,000\u00a0industry segments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Try it: <\/span><\/b>\u00a0BizMiner\u2019s<\/i> interface is easy to use.\u00a0 The homepage offers 2 types of reports to start with, Industry Financial Ratios and Industry Market Statistics, but also has options to do a keyword search or to drill down through industry categories and subcategories. Once you choose the industry, you can further narrow your search to a state or metro area. See <\/span>here <\/a>for a short video tutorial on the basics of searching BizMiner.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Why you should know this database: <\/span><\/b>BizMiner<\/span><\/i> Industry Market reports include industry population by year, market volume, employment class trends, and other statistics. Industry Financial Reports include Income-Expense, balance sheet, and financial ratios.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why students should know this database:\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>Each report in BizMiner<\/i> includes explanations of terms, providing students a ready reference tool to help them understand the data and why the information is important.<\/span><\/p>\n
