{"id":332,"date":"2009-10-09T09:55:03","date_gmt":"2009-10-09T13:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=332"},"modified":"2015-04-23T11:23:53","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T15:23:53","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-109","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2009\/10\/09\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-109\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 10\/9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> <em>World Tourism Organization E-Library<\/em>, from the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below our banner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> The <em>World Tourism Organization E-Library<\/em> reports cover the tourism industry around the world, and our subscription includes electronic versions (PDF or .xls) of all the data published in the standard reference, the <em>Tourism Factbook<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint:<\/strong> The link to the <em>Tourism Factbook<\/em> is about halfway down the column on the left on the landing page.\u00a0 For other searches, though, choose <strong>Advanced Search<\/strong> on the right side in order to quickly select parameters such as language, the region, and year of publication.\u00a0 After you hit <strong>Search<\/strong>, narrow further with selections that appear on the right side of the results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong> Tourism is, of course, the focus of the <em>World Tourism Organization E-Library<\/em>, but topics such as risk and crisis management, economics, and sustainable development are covered.\u00a0 The <em>Tourism Factbook<\/em> presents charts, but the full-text special country and special topic reports discuss aspects such as the geographical and cultural diversity of the country, population trends, historical and political backgrounds, and economic indicators.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> The <em>Tourism Factbook<\/em> will be of particular interest to students in HTM, but the special reports are a rich source of economic and social information.\u00a0 For example, <em>The Russian Outbound Market<\/em> includes a report on internet usage in Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> Paid by the Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
