Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> NetAdvantage,<\/em> from Standard & Poor\u2019s.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below our banner.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> NetAdvantage<\/em> gives access to Standard & Poor\u2019s company profiles, industry surveys, stock reports, fund reports, and includes a directory of security dealers.<\/p>\n Start with this hint:<\/strong> The NetAdvantage<\/em> home page has three columns.\u00a0 The two on the left display titles that link to various news items and reports, and the one on the right is an abbreviated access location for searching.\u00a0 The real power of the database is in the search capabilities through the tabs across the top.\u00a0\u00a0 In the tab Companies<\/strong>, enter yum<\/em> (or the ticker for another company you like) and choose Company Profile for a description plus a menu of details such as Financials, Dividends & Stock Splits, Annual Reports going back to the mid-90\u2019s, Corporate Bond Reports, and others.\u00a0 The unique feature is the highly valued S&P Stock Report, not available in any other database.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> NetAdvantage<\/em> includes numerous search options and capabilities for finding company and industry financial information, including some private companies and international industries.\u00a0 You can also identify companies that meet certain qualitative or quantitative criteria: in the Companies<\/strong> tab, select a type of report from the Advanced Search<\/strong> pull down, then select your criteria from the resulting form.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> The Industry Surveys<\/strong> include key industry ratios and the instructional reports, \u201cHow to Analyze a Company [in this industry]\u201d and \u201cHow the Industry Operates.\u201d<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> NetAdvantage is one element of a package from S&P, paid by the Libraries.\u00a0 If you would like more information about this, email mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
