Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> CountryWatch, <\/em> from CountryWatch, Inc.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below our banner.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> CountryWatch<\/em> provides up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the world.<\/p>\n Start with this hint:<\/strong> On your own you should explore the features listed on the left side of the home page, especially CountryWatch Data<\/strong> and Country Wire<\/strong>, but access to the main value of the database begins with Country Review<\/strong>.\u00a0 Select a country from the dropdown list and the resulting page is the \u201cCountry Overview,\u201d a very brief sketch of the country\u2019s basic information.\u00a0 Each of the links on the left, however, leads to a detailed report on that topic in that country.\u00a0 For example, if you select Pakistan, the section on \u201cPolitical Conditions\u201d is a nearly 60 page report and includes updates from just two weeks ago. Any topic that includes \u201cIndex\u201d in the title will lead to a comparison chart with the ratings or rankings of all countries.\u00a0 This is also true of some other listings, such as \u201cControl of Corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n Why you should know this database: <\/strong>Each CountryWatch<\/em> listing includes economic information, information on the investment climate, social and political information, and an environmental overview.\u00a0\u00a0 The Bibliography<\/strong> provides titles of books as well as links to both U.S. and international sources of information.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> At the top of the CountryWatch<\/em> home page is the link for More search features<\/strong>.\u00a0 Students can compare countries for a product such as cotton, or subject such as taxation, or a concept such as child labor.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> Paid by the Libraries annually.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
