Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong> LexisNexis Academic, <\/em>from LexisNexis, Inc.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> LexisNexis Academic <\/em>provides access to a suite of resources from LexisNexis including News,\u00a0 Accounting, Company Dossier, Country Profiles, Statistical, <\/em>and Legal<\/em>.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>As we have pointed out in previous emails about LexisNexis<\/em>, the interface is unadorned.\u00a0 The opening page lands you at Search<\/strong> > General<\/strong> > Easy Search<\/strong> which is where we recommend you begin searching for your topic.\u00a0 Do use the date filter and select appropriate publications from the checklist.\u00a0 When your results are presented, you can further narrow your search with another term or you can select from the filters on the left side.\u00a0 If you want to tweak your results, don\u2019t use the back arrow on your browser but\u00a0 use Edit Search<\/strong> and Go<\/strong> in the field above the list of results.\u00a0\u00a0 If you switch from <\/strong>Easy Search<\/strong> to Power Search<\/strong> you have more options for narrowing your search.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database: <\/strong>LexisNexis Academic,<\/em> though not our most sophisticated interface, contains a broad range of information from general news to legal.\u00a0 The information in Country Profiles<\/strong>, accessed through\u00a0 Search ><\/strong><\/strong> Business<\/strong>,\u00a0 can give you risk reports, political and economic news.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> A search for a recent topic in News<\/strong> can give your students an up-to-the minute international perspective on any subject.\u00a0 For a current example, do a search for Haiti<\/em>.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> LexisNexis Academic<\/em> is a subscription service paid by the Libraries annually; for more information contact mdugan@purdue.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
