Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL). These database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
This Week\u2019s Featured Database: <\/strong>SourceOECD, <\/em>from the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development.<\/p>\n Link:<\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> SourceOECD <\/em>offers statistics and full text books and reports from the OECD, whose focus is the world economy.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>The SourceOECD<\/em> opening page has the search field for a simple search which will look for your term in resource titles and abstracts. If your subject is a phrase, be sure to use quotation marks: water policies<\/em> will give different results from \u201cwater policies.\u201d<\/em> If you choose All publications<\/em> for your simple search, the results will include book sections as well as working papers and periodicals.\u00a0 Choose the Advanced Search<\/strong> option if you want to expand your search to the full text. The opening webpage has new publications and popular resources such as the OECD Economic Outlook Data,<\/em> but a better way to browse is to select one of the tabs across the top, especially Books, Periodicals, Statistics, <\/strong>or Working Papers.<\/strong> The statistical databases in SourceOECD<\/em> cover national accounts, economic indicators, trade, employment, migration, education, energy, and health.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> The reports and statistics in SourceOECD<\/em> cover key areas of the financial sector, the real economy, social policy, environment, development and innovation in both member and non-member countries. The OECD is also monitoring the impact of the current world financial crisis on developing countries.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> SourceOECD<\/em> addresses regional issues in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. The organization covers economic and social trends, from the labor force in persistently poor areas to the innovation and growth of the Internet economy.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> Paid by the Libraries annually.
