This week, for Spring Break, we are pleased to feature a resource unique to Purdue University Libraries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Week\u2019s Featured Database<\/strong>:\u00a0 <em>e-Archives<\/em>, in honor of the exhibit <em>Amelia Earhart: the Aviator, the Advocate, and the Icon<\/em>, on display March 1- May 28, 2010, in the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center, on the 4th floor of the HSSE Library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link<\/strong>:\u00a0 <em>e-Archives<\/em> is accessed via <em>e-Scholar<\/em>, in the pull down <em>Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\">MEL\u2019s home page<\/a>, right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus<\/strong>: <em>e-Archives<\/em> is the Purdue Libraries\u2019 digital collection of manuscripts, photographs, and University publications.\u00a0 <em>Amelia Earhart: the Aviator, the Advocate, and the Icon<\/em>, is an exhibit drawn from the world\u2019s largest collection of Amelia Earhart papers, photos, memorabilia, and artifacts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint<\/strong>: <em>e-Archives<\/em> includes an <strong>Advanced Search<\/strong> in the header toolbar, and it is a good choice if you know what you are looking for.\u00a0 The toolbar also offers an option to <strong>Browse by Type<\/strong>, but for descriptions of the collections, select <strong>Browse by Title<\/strong>.\u00a0 That link takes you to a list that includes descriptions and links to over 20 collections including, for example, <em>Amelia Earhart at Purdue<\/em>, the <em>Krannert Alumni Magazine<\/em>, and <em>Purdue University Newsreels<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database<\/strong>: <em>e-Archives<\/em> includes over 107,000 digital objects.\u00a0 Here you can learn more about Helen Gouger, a lawyer who argued in Tippecanoe County Court in 1895 that women should receive the vote, or see a page from the Book of Hours, or browse through historical photos of Purdue buildings, athletes, astronauts, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this can be integrated into the curriculum<\/strong>:\u00a0 Class visits are welcome in the Archives and Special Collections.
