Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
Database name:<\/strong> Uniworld, <\/em>from Uniworld Business Publications.<\/p>\n Link: <\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> Uniworld<\/em> is an online directory of American companies operating in foreign countries and foreign companies operating in the United States.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>Uniworld<\/em> is a simple database.\u00a0 First select from the two categories, American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries<\/strong> or Foreign Firms Operating in the United States<\/strong>, and then narrow down your search by selecting parameters on the ensuing page.\u00a0 Options to focus your search are country, region, the state where the company is located, zip code, a keyword describing the product or service, industry code, revenue, and others.\u00a0 After selecting the parameters, click Next<\/strong> to see results and then select a format, choosing a spreadsheet to download or a list to display.\u00a0 A personal profile can be set up and searches can be saved.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> Uniworld\u2019<\/em>s branch location dataset includes the non-headquarters United States locations of American multinational firms.\u00a0 This provides all locations (inside and outside) the United States, making it easy for a user to find a firm that is local.\u00a0 In the keyword search field it is possible to search for aspects such as research & development<\/em> or nanotechnology<\/em>.\u00a0 Uniworld<\/em> includes both public and private companies and is updated weekly, with every firm edited at least once a year. Although Uniworld<\/em> was selected to support students as they build their careers, it is also a good source of company information.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> Students can identify foreign companies by product or by income level.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong> Paid annually by the Libraries, the Center for Career Opportunities (CCO), and Graduate Career Services (GCS) in the Krannert School of Management.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
