{"id":875,"date":"2010-04-30T14:14:21","date_gmt":"2010-04-30T18:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2010\/04\/30\/875\/"},"modified":"2015-04-23T11:13:15","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T15:13:15","slug":"875","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2010\/04\/30\/875\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 4\/30\/10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Database name:<\/strong> <em>TableBase, <\/em>from Gale Cengage Learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link: <\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\" target=\"_blank\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> <em>TableBase<\/em> is a database of tabular information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint: <\/strong><em>TableBase<\/em> is the companion to <em>Business &amp; Industry<\/em>, an articles database.\u00a0 The records in <em>TableBase, <\/em>however, are just the tables and have been stripped of the accompanying text.\u00a0 In this database it is best to start with a simple search.\u00a0 For example, enter <em>coffee<\/em> (or another term of your choosing) in the search box and notice that the titles displayed in the results list are precise and descriptive, aiding in more exact selection.\u00a0 In addition to describing the subject of the table, the title usually includes the country and date. If you click on a record link, you can see the record of the article from which the table has been pulled.\u00a0 You can, of course, go to advanced search and narrow the results with additional terms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong><em> TableBase<\/em> company and industry records cover market share, market size, capacity, production, statistics and demographics..<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> TableBase is the source for students looking for a list, whether it is the top producers of a product, a forecast in dollars and percentage, market segmentation, sales, or other parameters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> Paid annually by the Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
