Welcome to Database of the Week — a feature from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n
Database name:<\/strong> Corporate Affiliations, <\/em>from LexisNexis.<\/p>\n Link: <\/strong> www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n Description\/focus:<\/strong> Corporate Affiliations<\/em> is a database showing corporate family information, including information about the executives, for about half a million US and international businesses.<\/p>\n Start with this hint: <\/strong>The new interface for Corporate Affiliations<\/em> is nothing like other LexisNexis products.\u00a0 The home page is fast and easy to navigate, and most of the features are intuitive.\u00a0 The landing page from our drop down is the company Quick Search<\/strong>.\u00a0 Find a public company by entering the name (General Motors, for example) or ticker.\u00a0 You can also enter an SIC or NAICS code.\u00a0 The database includes private companies, such as Hallmark Cards.\u00a0 If you scroll across the navigation bar across the top and hover on Features<\/strong>, you can link to other search capabilities such as Merger News,<\/strong> or Bio<\/strong>, where you can search by parameters such as education (try Purdue).\u00a0 Hover over\u00a0 Learn More<\/strong> and open the User\u2019s Guide<\/strong> (which is very well-written) to see details on other features.<\/p>\n Why you should know this database:<\/strong> Corporate Affiliations<\/em> company profiles show a link labeled Compare All Years<\/strong>.\u00a0 The resulting page displays a grid showing changes over time in the company financials, products, SIC, stock exchange, providers of outside services (accounting, legal, advertising), executives, and board of directors. The improved interface for Corporate Affiliations<\/em> makes it easier to get information on mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcies, downsizing, and other company actions.<\/p>\n How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> With Corporate Affiliations<\/em> students can find extensive information about a company, including subsidiaries, brands, corporate hierarchies, and competitors.<\/p>\n Cost:<\/strong>\u00a0 Paid annually by the Libraries.<\/p>\n ——————————<\/p>\n Database of the Week comes to you from the Management & Economics Library (MEL).
