{"id":935,"date":"2010-05-24T08:54:52","date_gmt":"2010-05-24T12:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=935"},"modified":"2015-04-23T11:12:03","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T15:12:03","slug":"mels-database-of-the-week-for-52110","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lib.purdue.edu\/news\/2010\/05\/24\/mels-database-of-the-week-for-52110\/","title":{"rendered":"MEL&#8217;s Database of the Week for 5\/21\/10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to Database of the Week &#8212; a feature from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).\u00a0 These weekly database snapshots will give you basic information about our most relevant and beneficial online resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Database name:<\/strong> <em>SRDS, <\/em>from Kantar Media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Link: <\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel\" target=\"_blank\">www.lib.purdue.edu\/mel<\/a>, in the pull down<em> Quick Access to Business Databases<\/em> alpha list right below the Libraries\u2019 search box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description\/focus:<\/strong> <em>SRDS<\/em> provides ad prices and related data for advertisers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with this hint: <\/strong>In the <em>SRDS<\/em> banner drop down, select a link under <strong>My<\/strong> <strong>Services<\/strong>.\u00a0 For example, click on <em>Newspapers<\/em>. To find a newspaper in a specific city or metropolitan area, click on <strong>Display\/ROP<\/strong>.\u00a0 Try the drop down for a city of interest, such as New Orleans, click on the name, then click <strong>Go<\/strong>.\u00a0 From the newspapers listed for New Orleans, select <em>The Times-Picayune<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>SRDS<\/em> displays the advertising costs and market data information about the newspaper, including contacts, rates, special options, policies (for example, \u201cAlcoholic beverage advertising not accepted\u201d), circulation statistics, and Audience Reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why you should know this database:<\/strong> <em>SRDS<\/em> is the leading provider of advertising rates, editorial content, circulation and other information about any media selling advertising space. On the basic search pages for the media are links to other reports such as the <em>State Reports<\/em> which show county household earnings, demographics (such as black and Hispanic populations), and the dollars spent on categories such as autos, drugs, restaurants, building materials, and others.\u00a0 There are also reports showing metropolitan area demographics such as ethnicity, employment, and sales rankings by merchandise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How this database can be integrated into the curriculum:<\/strong> With <em>SRDS<\/em> a student can find real-world data for the advertising section of a marketing plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> Paid annually by the Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Database of the Week comes to you from the Management &amp; Economics Library (MEL).
