This thread is to encourage exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices for collaborating with disciplinary faculty?  I thought I’d start with a few prompt questions.

  • What approaches have you used to explain what a library scientist does/studies?
  • How did your most successful collaborations with disciplinary faculty members start?  What were the keys to engaging the faculty member’s interests?
  • Are there institutional resources that you found helpful in getting the collaboration off the ground?

I think Jeremy’s article is a good read in this area… “A Subject Librarian’s Guide to Collaborating on e-Science Projects.” Jeremy R. Garritano. Issues in Science and Technology Librarianship, Spring 2009. http://www.istl.org/09-spring/refereed2.html
