Academic Librarian Curriculum Developers: Building Capacity to Integrate Information Literacy across the University<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Led by Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies Associate Professor Clarence Maybee, a team from Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies has received a $249,179 award through the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to conduct the \u201cAcademic Librarian Curriculum Developers (ALCD): Building Capacity to Integrate Information Literacy across the University\u201d project.<\/p>\n

A partnership between Purdue University, the University of Arizona, and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, the ALCD project increases the capacity of academic librarians to enable student learning by partnering with instructors to develop curricula that allows students to more intentionally, creatively, and ethically use information in disciplinary contexts. Purdue BOT Ratifies McNeil\u2019s Appointment as Esther Ellis Norton Professor of Library Science<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Thursday (Oct. 10) ratified the appointment of Beth McNeil as the Esther Ellis Norton Professor of Library Science. McNeil is dean of Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies.<\/p>\n

She is a nationally known scholar of management practices in libraries and leadership development. She is the author of \u201cFundamentals of Library Supervision,\u201d which is in its third edition, as well as numerous articles, edited works, and book chapters. She rejoined the Purdue faculty in July 2019, having previously been at Purdue from 2007-15 as associate dean in Libraries. Read more…<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Wayne Wright Honored with 2019 Leadership in Open Access Award<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wayne Wright has been selected as the recipient of 2019 Leadership in Open Access Award from Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies and the Office of the Provost. According to Dean of Libraries and School of Information Studies and Esther Ellis Norton Professor of Library Science Beth McNeil, Wright was chosen this year for his exceptional advocacy for Open Access (OA) at Purdue and beyond.<\/p>\n

Expedition Amelia<\/strong>
\nProfessor Sammie Morris, head of the Purdue Archives and Special Collections, and was among the experts interviewed for the National Geographic channel’s “Expedition Amelia,” a two-hour special that debuted Sunday, Oct. 20.<\/p>\n

The show tells the story of how ocean explorer Robert Ballard (discoverer of the Titanic) has set out to search for Amelia Earhart\u2019s airplane. In the special, Professor Morris discusses the intense interest in what happened to Amelia and to her plane. Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies (PULSIS) will offer four new digital scholarship-related information and library science (ILS) courses in Spring 2020.<\/p>\n

According to PULSIS Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities Matt Hannah, the courses are designed to provide students with important skills related to Digital Humanities, data science, archival science, and data management. Read more…<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

150 Years of Giant Leaps: Homecoming 2019 \u2014 Astronaut Reunion<\/strong><\/p>\n
