\"IMPACT<\/a>Purdue Faculty Publish Paper on IMPACT Course Redesign Program thru NILOA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

This week, several members of Purdue University faculty and staff published, \u201cCreating Student-Centered Learning Environments and Changing Teaching Culture: Purdue University\u2019s IMPACT Program\u201d through the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA). The invited paper The invited paper describes Purdue\u2019s IMPACT (Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation) course design program, which was recognized last year by The Chronicle of Higher Education as one of six encouraging innovations in education. Women in Data Science Set for March 4 at Purdue’s Discovery Park<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\"Women<\/a>The second annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) at Purdue University is set for Monday, March 4 in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship in Discovery Park. Started at Stanford<\/a> in 2015, the WiDS initiative aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and support women in the field. The annual global conference is now held in conjunction with many other entities around the world. At Purdue, the goal is to help build a community focused on data science and to inspire and raise awareness among students and community members about the opportunities for women in the data science field. \"Jason<\/a>Communicating the Stakes of Climate Change<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

In late 2017, at a conference in Bonn, Germany, Jason Reed and a few of his Purdue University colleagues convinced government officials to play a game. If you are wondering why on Earth people from Purdue would do such a thing, Earth is exactly why they did. Here\u2019s some context\u2026<\/p>\n

The conference was the Bonn Climate Change Conference, a midyear working meeting between the UN Climate Change conferences, the \u201cforemost global forums for multilateral discussion of climate change matters\u201d; the government officials were climate negotiation delegates... What IF Psychedelics Can Heal?<\/strong><\/a>
\n\"Michael-Pollan-CREDIT-Jeannette-Montgomery-Barron-COLOR_3mb\"<\/a>For decades, psychedelic drugs have been associated with \u201cturning on, tuning in, dropping out\u201d and the countercultural baggage of the 1960s. But what if they hold the key to treating a series of health afflictions? Are they safe? Are they effective? Six-time New York Times best-selling author Michael Pollan (pictured, left) will explore these ideas March 20 in a Q&A session led by Rhonda Phillips, interim dean of Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies. \u201cWhat If Psychedelics Can Heal?\u201d is set for 6 p.m. in Stewart Center\u2019s Fowler Hall.<\/p>\n

Office of Undergraduate Research Provides Opportunities for Students, Staff to Learn and Communicate<\/a><\/p>\n

Purdue Today: In the Spotlight<\/strong><\/em>
\nThe Office of Undergraduate Research was formed in summer 2017, and since then has developed a wealth of opportunities and services for not only undergraduates, but also faculty and staff. Its seminars, scholarships and conferences benefit research and creative endeavors in all academic disciplines across campus.<\/p>\n

For students, the OUR works to promote and expand opportunities for them to work on undergraduate research experiences with skilled mentors across campus, and opportunities are provided every semester to work on research communication.<\/p>\n

Amy Childress, the OUR\u2019s director, says that students\u2019 learning about communicating their research and disseminating it is an important piece of research: \u201cIt\u2019s a critical component of their experience, and being able to communicate what they\u2019re doing and its impacts to a broader audience is something that will serve them well in their future careers.\u201d Read more…<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
